Senator John Chafee, a long time friend and supporter of CONECT, championed our free and fair trade message enthusiastically throughout his years in Washington DC, even though it was a contrarian stance from within the New England congressional delegation. It was this independent approach that he took while in the Senate that caused the CONECT Board of Directors to found the Senator John Chafee Memorial Scholarship Fund upon his passing. The purpose of these scholarship awards is to help a student in our community continue the late Senator's efforts to expand free and fair trade and to develop the same ability for independent thought that Senator Chafee was know for.
