Tariff Mitigation and Management in a Volatile Trade Climate Thursday, February 10, 2022, 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. EST Why you should attend: Over the past few years, uncertainty and volatility have become a constant in international trade, thanks to added tariffs on Chinese-made goods, supply chain bottlenecks, the global COVID-19 pandemic, and much more. As a result, importers’ costs continue to rise. One way to help keep import costs down in today’s uncertain trade climate is to reduce or defer tariffs utilizing various methods and tools allowed under U.S. law. In this 90-minute webinar led by Matthew A. Bock, Managing Partner, Middleton Shrull & Bock LLC, attendees will learn how to apply pre- and post-importation tariff mitigation and management strategies. Topics will include: Pre-Importation: - Tariff engineering and classification optimization: changing how a product is manufactured and finding appropriate new classifications to reduce duties
- Country of origin optimization: leveraging laws and regulations relating to the country of origin to potentially reduce the impact of Section 301 and other special tariffs
- Valuation optimization: leveraging laws and regulations to potentially reduce the declared value of imported merchandise
Post-Importation: - Bonded warehouses: the benefits of bonded warehouses and how they may alleviate the impact of duties and tariffs on imported merchandise
- Foreign trade zones: the benefits of FTZs and how they may alleviate the impact of duties and tariffs on imported merchandise
- Duty drawback: how to leverage laws and regulations to obtain substantial refunds of duties and tariffs paid on imported merchandise that is later exported or destroyed
