Part 111: Modernization of Customs Broker Regulations Join us!
The new Customs Broker Regulations went into effect on December 19, 2022 but guidance from CBP continues to be issued to clarify some of the issues.
This session will outline the most critical changes to the Regulations and discuss impact to Brokers and Importers:
* What do Brokers have to do differently?
* How will the new Regulations change brokers’ interaction with importers? The discussion will include changes to broker reporting requirements, Power of Attorney (POA), Responsible Supervision and Control, and CBP’s updated guidance on implementing the Regulations.
Speakers: Ania Fuller, Director of Consulting and Regulatory Affairs, A.N. Deringer, Inc.Ania Wierzbowska-Fuller is a Director of Consulting and Regulatory Affairs at A.N. Deringer, Inc. She joined Deringer in May of 2017, and has over 20 years of leadership experience in various industries. Prior to Deringer, Ania was with Target Corporation for twelve years, including five years at Target’s Global Trade Services in leadership roles. She was responsible for duty savings strategies, including Target’s First Sale Program, as well as facilitating execution of Target’s Importer Self-Assessment (ISA) Program. She worked with internal partners and with foreign vendors to maximize duty savings, to assure vendor compliance with US Customs laws and regulations and to provide training for overseas business units and suppliers. In addition, Ania’s team was responsible for import compliance, post entry amendments, regulatory analysis and resolution of detentions and admissibility issues. Ania leads Deringer’s Trade Advisory Group, Trade Compliance Team, and Regulatory Affairs. She uses her expertise to help Deringer’s clients develop comprehensive and effective compliance programs that withstand the fast-paced changes of today’s international trade environment. In addition to being a licensed customs broker, Ania holds an MBA degree from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Robert Silverman, Esq. Mr. Silverman routinely assists these clients in structuring their import transactions in order to minimize Customs duties, ensure regulatory compliance and eliminate Customs penalty exposure. He represents companies during Customs audits involving classification, valuation and eligibility under Free Trade Agreements such as NAFTA, CAFTA, AGOA, GSP, etc.; Customs investigations, seizures, exclusions, penalty and liquidated damages assessments. He also is responsible for firm litigation matters before the federal courts. He has written and lectured widely on Customs and trade issues. He graduated cum laude from law school, and was on the law review. He has an undergraduate degree in accounting. He has authored “Analysis of the Customs Regulations Regarding Customs Brokers,” and he serves as customs counsel to the NY/NJ Foreign Freight Forwarders and Brokers Association. He has authored numerous articles for Metropolitan Corporate Counsel and other trade publications.
